I am an enthusiastic and devoted Spanish teacher with excellent communication skills, a high degree of fluency in major Spanish dialects and culture; maximizing learning opportunities in diverse classroom settings, and private lessons, and I’m very interested in well-being activities across the language curriculum and individual goals with the language.
I do speak Spanish as a native language since I am from Colombia, English, since I have been living and working in an English-speaking country for more than 5 years. Currently learning French.
My credentials include a degree in Communication (Spe. Narrative Journalism) along with an international teaching certification course with Moreland University and training in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language to Children.
Presently working as a Private Spanish Teacher. I have experience teaching Spanish in a variety of settings: I worked at Ecole Française of Kampala, Senior School, and had two years of experience teaching Junior School at the International School of Uganda, ISU.
My teaching experience and passion for community engagement make me an ideal candidate for a teaching position at any school, university, or institute around the world.
These are some highlights of my skills and accomplishments:
-
- For two years I worked as a communicator in an art museum so I combine language teaching with the sensitivity of the arts to generate interdisciplinary processes in the classroom.
-
- Possess an ability to communicate complex information in a way that students can easily comprehend.
-
- Experience adopting distinctive teaching methodologies, documenting all lessons, organizing healthy group discussions, and mentoring students with special needs.
-
- At the French School of Kampala, I created the Spanish curriculum and managed to get the school to acquire new learning materials such as essential books and dictionaries for the classes.
-
- At ISU I actively participated in the consolidation of its additional language curriculum and in the documentation forms of the student process. I was also the leader of our language team (6 languages) and we managed to create effective communication channels among the entire educational community.
My strong initiative and exceptional organizational skills allow me to play a crucial role in a fast-paced teaching environment.
Projects
Lesson and PBL Plan example:
Learning a language supposes not only learning a new alphabet, pronunciation, and vocabulary it is also learning about the culture and how to use the language to connect and express who we are in the world.
Using technology and different apps, I offer my students an education that is fitting for a citizen of the 21st century offering places where students could participate in a forum, share their writing, evaluate their work, and highlight their accomplishments with fellow students, returning to the class website again and again for information and updates.
Managing Learning Environment Plan:
The strategies that I propose below are focused on the work done with my group and particularly on my reality as a Spanish teacher, this means that I do not spend all my time in the classroom and only see the students in each grade twice per week.
Teachers workshop:
Teachers, especially in the context of international schools, live all the time in the little bubble that the academic community that we create offers us.
Conversations outside of the classroom often turn into reflections on the classes, the curriculum, and the students. Sometimes I find that there is no room to reflect on our
transformation as individuals and I think this is a very important issue. This is why my project is focused on vindicating the teacher as an individual and not just as a professional.
